Introduction

The purpose of this work is to understand the difference and characteristics of qualitative and quantitative research through the SWOT analysis and consequently identify the methodology to use in our topic and how to do it, and also to choose the appropriate method to implement it to the research idea.

SWOT Analysis

Qualitative SWOT Analysis:

STRENGHTS

WEAKNESSES

-          It is open to more research interpretation

-          The data that is getting is not numerical

-          It give us an interpretation of the experience that us taking part in the research

-          It is difficult to use large-scale samples

-          It can’t be quantified or counted

-          It has no rules for its procedure

-          It is up for discuss and debate.

-          Open-ended questions

-          It uses one source to collect data

-          It looks the thing in their natural setting

-          Relative low-cost

-          In the final report it has a lot of writing on it

-          It is too complex and abstract to understand

OPPORTUNITIES

THREATS

Quantitative SWOT Analysis

STRENGHTS

WEAKNESSES

-          It tries to prove or improve something

-          It has a final conclusion

-          It can be counted, measured

-          It is not open for more research interpretation

-          Participants can’t explain their choices

-          It can’t uncover in-depth.

-          It is easier to understand

-          It looks at variables

-          In the final report it not uses many words

-          It is relatively costly

-          It uses more than one source to collect data

-          It is not up for discuss

OPPORTUNITIES

THREATS

Identify the methodology used by the author.

  1.      What was the motivation of the project?

The motivation that the researchers had in this research project was to try to reestablish what education at home is like, providing certain criteria that are determined as results of learning, social, emotional, and psychological development of children, thus being able to proceed do research on African American families. In the same way, there is a lot of data that motivates us to continue investigating this topic.

2.   What are the key research questions and how were they investigated?

From my point of view, I can ask two questions:

  •   Can home schooling be considered an effective method of learning?
This has been investigated by means of various studies that have been done on people who have been home schooling for a long time.

  • Are homeschoolers fit for such a responsibility?
This is a key point of this study, where he highlights that in his research this is a disadvantage, because the educators are not teaching to the tests that are administered as public-school teachers do.

3.   Is this a quantitative or qualitative research?

It is a quantitative research because the data collection is quantifiable, and the project is research is about homeschooling. The data collection is carried out in the article in a statistical way through questionnaires.

Research Idea Methodology

The method I am going to use for my research idea is the qualitative method, since my idea is based on investigating if autonomous learning helps us to improve our skills in a more concise way, I need to ask questions open to discussion and based on the experiences of the participants, and that is just what qualitative research does.
